What Happened

Flying from Syerston with 304 (Silesian) Squadron, Wellington R.1014 crashed near Bleasby, Nottinghamshire on 6 February 1941. The pilot, Sergeant Stanisław Tofin, aged 35, was killed alongside all four Polish crew members on board. Sergeant Wojciech Lichota, aged 32, and Sergeant Jan Adam Cymborski, who served as wireless operator, were also among the dead. There were no survivors. The crew are commemorated at a memorial near the crash site in Bleasby.

Wellington R1014 of 304 (Land of Silesia) Polish Bomber Squadron crashed shortly after takeoff from RAF Syerston on 6 February 1941, coming down at Station Farm near Bleasby.
