What Happened

Returning from an aborted mission to Alençon in northwestern France, B-24H Liberator *Nature's Nymph* of the 705th Bomb Squadron, 446th Bomb Group, got into difficulties over England on 7 June 1944. The crew were forced to abandon the aircraft, which came down at Corner Farm, Rumburgh, Suffolk, at 11:05 hours. Eight of the ten crew members perished: 2nd Lt. Zeeler, 2nd Lt. Stevens, T/Sgt Siegfried Profe, T/Sgt Robert A. McKinley, Sgt Charles W. Tungett, Sgt Charles A. Peck, Sgt Paul Winkleman, and Sgt Louis Zusser. At least two crew members parachuted to safety.
